Get her look!
I had the pleasure of doing Emily Maynard‘s (now Emily Johnson’s) makeup + hair for her wedding.
Occasionally, I’ll receive emails or tags on Instagram pictures about the products that I used on her wedding day. With Valentines Day around the corner, y’all can brush up on a new makeup look to woo your loved one!
I always start with the eyes first… this is so important, ladies. When doing a smokey eye, you’ll get lots of “fall off” on your cheek/ under eye from the shadow. So, I start with eyes, clean up and then move to the face and lips. Refer to the diagram that shows my steps in order. Product info is also listed below. I also source Nordstrom’s because of their free shipping, but had to throw in some brands that they don’t carry from Sephora.

1.) Apply MAC Paint Pot Primer – color: Painterly all across lid. From lash line to under the brow line. The best primer for eyes I’ve ever used.
2.) Cover the majority of the lid in Urban Decay Shadow – color: Sin. I normally stop a little below the brow line. Shadow “Sin” is also in Naked I and Naked 3 palettes.
3.) Apply a “highlight” shadow below the brow line. I used MAC Shadow – color: Gesso. Such a great go to.
4.) Start to shade/ contour with a darker shadow to create definition. MAC Shadow – color: Sketch is a gorgeous color with a slight hint of plum.
5.) I’ll take a precision brush to really work in a darker shadow color. I start by apply right along the outer corner lash line and then I’ll gradually blend up. The color that I used is also one of my favorites, MAC Shadow – color: Beauty Marked.
6.) Fill in brows. The Anastasia Beverly Hills Brows and Eyes (color: blonde was used on Emily) kit is AMAZING. I use this palette every day… on myself and on clients. Also, it comes with a great under brow highlighter, so you could always skip purchasing Step #3 above.
7.) I’ve talked about this eyeliner over and over on my blog. Again, MAC has a fabulous liner. My go to and favorite. I used MAC Fluidline – color: Blacktrack. Best $16 liner and I use this slanted brush to apply.
8.) Ardell lashes were used during Emily’s trial, but on wedding day she wore extensions.
9.) I first applied the BECCA Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector. So important! Emily got married in the southern heat of June and her entire wedding was outside. From the moment we got out of the limo, there wasn’t a spot inside to touch her up. This primer just zaps those pores and keeps oil from releasing. Next, I applied Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Full Coverage Foundation. If you follow me on Instagram, you know how much I love Tarte products.
11.) Next up, I apply a brightener for under the eye. I love Bare Minerals Stoke of Light – color: fair/pink. Then I’ll go in and contour cheeks, nose, forehead and chin. I love MAC Select Cover Up for contouring. I used color: NC42 for the darker shading and color: NC20 for the lighter.
12.) I used my favorite powder on Emily. Kat Von D Lock-It Powder Foundation (24 hour wear). BEST powder I’ve ever used.
13.) A gorgeous blush up next… MAC Blush – color: Dollymix love this color! Another favorite!
14.) I added a little store to her upper cheek bones, below the chin and above the lip of Urban Decay Naked Illuminated.
15.) I used my very favorite shade of lipstick on Emily. First, let me tell you… MAC lipstick – you can’t go wrong. I love how it doesn’t cake, it lasts and the pigment is just beautiful. MAC Lipstick – color: Plumful.
